Crafting (Profession Revamp)
The long-overdue revamp of Professions is here! Profession cards now work like Talents; their deckbuilding rules are: “You can put cards from up to one other Profession in your deck.” This change is retroactive, and applies to all “[Profession] Hero Required” cards. Like with Talents, heroes with printed Professions can include only cards from those Professions in their deck; heroes with no printed Profession can include cards from any two Professions in their deck.
In addition to this change, we are also introducing Trait cards for each Profession, as a way to give your hero “printed” Professions (see below). Trait cards begin the game in play “attached” to your hero and are considered an extension of your hero, not a separate card. Traits are deckbuilding rules, and not powers that can be lost. However, like printed traits, these traits are lost if your hero becomes a Master Hero. Traits are optional and not required to run any Profession cards, though some cards such as Forager’s Gloves and Sageblade only have certain powers or do certain things while your hero has the corresponding Profession trait; they can otherwise be played in any deck they are legal. Heroes with printed Profession traits can include the Trait cards of their Professions.
Now, let’s take a look at the main mechanics of the set. First, we are introducing keyworded crafting counters that are added to your hero: Cloth, Essence, Herb, Leather, and Ore counters. These counters have the power: “On your turn: (1), Remove 3 [Cloth/Essence/Herb/Leather/Ore] counters from your hero >>> Put a Gold token into play.” The Gold is a keyworded token item that has the power: “On your turn: (1), [Activate], Destroy this item >>> Choose one: Draw a card; or add 3 Cloth, Essence, Herb, Leather, or Ore counters to your hero.”
The gathering Professions, such as Herbalism and Mining, collect these counters to use them to reduce the cost of playing cards and effects from the crafting professions through the Craft keyword. The Craft keyword says: “As you play or complete this card or effect, you may remove any number of [Cloth/Essence/Herb/Leather/Ore] counters from your hero. You pay (1) less to play or complete this card or effect for each counter removed this way.”
You’ll notice there is no reminder text on the cards themselves for the [Cloth/Essence/Herb/Leather/Ore] counters, Gold token, and Craft keyword. We did this keep the cards as clean and uncluttered as we could. You’ll find the reminder text for the counters and Craft keywords on their corresponding Profession Trait cards, and the info for the Gold token can always be found on the token itself. The Trait cards are also a great place to add the crafting counters, to minimize confusion with damage on your hero.
We’ve tried to design each card from the crafting Professions to stand alone without needing to run the Gathering professions, but they become more efficient to play if you do invest the turns and deck space to build up counters. You may also notice on the equipment that the Demonhunter Class Symbol is included. This is in preparation for the Demonhunter class to be introduced in a Starter Set later in Block 9, and for Legion in Block 10, and this will be the equipment frame we use moving forward.
This set will be legal for all Reborn events beginning November 7th, 2025.
Happy crafting!
